Malaria is a disease that in current times we are all a lot more aware of due to it’s increased publicity through things such as Comic Relief and Sports Relief that are plastered all over our televisions for hours on end. Although showing what the disease does and what the Symptoms of Malaria are what this publicity also does is educate us as to how serious a disease malaria is and how prepared we should make ourselves should we visit one of the one hundred plus countries in the world where malaria is found. So it’s not all about efforts to have poor people in rich countries give what little money they have to the rich governments of poor countries! As the footage that is broadcasted shows the early symptoms of malaria are those of the common flu and may not seem particularly serious, however once the disease develops inside the victim it can render them almost immobile because of how sick they are and subsequent fits and seizures along with severe delirium will lead to a coma that many victims never come out of. Of course we see the disease on the poor helpless people in the third world who do not have the means to help themselves however the physical effect would be much the same to anybody that visited such a country and just because you stay in a nice hotel doesn’t mean there is a nice hospital down the road to save you. If you do not take all of the appropriate measures to ensure you are protected and therefore the odds of you ever even experiencing the symptoms of malaria being significantly reduced, then you are leaving yourself exposed to a disease that can quite simply lead to your death. Chancing treatment in a third world or developing country by way of blood transfusion or injected drugs leaves you open to coming away with more illnesses than you went into the hospital to receive treatment for in the first place. Drugs, sprays and mosquito nets are essentials that nobody should travel to a malaria hotspot without! Just experiencing the Symptoms of Malaria and receiving a cure can lead to long term medical complications, loss of sight and anemia to name a couple of examples. Risking exposure to malaria is incredibly foolish, you wouldn’t cross the motorway with a blindfold on now would you?
