Among the various forms of gastric bypass surgery there are quite a few different variants that each has their own advantages and disadvantages. A mini gastric bypass for example, is generally considered the easiest to perform, and also relatively cheaper. But it can exhibit serious disadvantages as well. One of these disadvantages is that excess acid can lead to ulceration of the stomach or esophagus. And of course, if the acid should leak into the abdominal cavity itself, the consequences can be extremely dangerous. On the other hand, in the forty years since this form of gastric bypass was invented ways have been found around this problem, for example, siting the exit point from the stomach a little distance from esophagus. Of course, another thing in favor of mini bypass is price. This form of bypass surgery is generally less expensive than more complex versions,  as the average cost of gastric bypass surgery can be a minimum of twenty thousand dollars and can go up to fifteen thousands more. On the other hand, more conventional variants, while more complex and expensive, have been shown better results than the mini gastric bypass. This generally makes them worth the cost. A variant called gastric sleeve surgery for example is both reasonably priced and has been shown to be extremely effective. In this form of  gastric bypass surgery, the total area of the stomach is reduced to an extremely small volume shaped rather like a sleeve. As this cannot hold much food, the stomach sends signals to the brain saying that it is full, and the brain responses by killing one’s hunger and desire to eat.
