Acupuncture Treatments Can Help Relieve Bells Palsy Symptoms
Acupuncture may or may not help cases of facial paralysis. It actually depends on how long it’s been since the onset of Bells Palsy, along with the skill of your acupuncture practitioner. If it’s been less than 4 weeks since the onset of Bell’s Palsy, acupuncture often shows results within 2 weeks time whereas if acupuncture treatment is started after 4 weeks, the results take longer to show and may not be as good.
Acupuncture falls into this category of therapies where the results highly depend upon the skill of the practitioner and how quickly you decide to try the treatment.
Basically, Bell’s Palsy is one of those conditions where patients usually DO BENEFIT from acupuncture, and starting acupuncture treatments sooner is better than later.
The only way to know if acupuncture will work for you is not to debate about it, not to think it’s something strange, but just try. First find an acupuncturist who’s had prior experience with Bell’s Palsy, try 2-3 sessions (one isn’t enough), and see if it helps. That’s how you’ll know.
Western medicine believes that acupuncture works because of some sort of nerve enervation that it doesn’t yet understand, whereas Chinese medicine states that it works by regulating the chi (qi) or life force of your body, directing it to areas where it may have become deficient (i.e. paralysis).
Regardless as to how it works, if it works then it works…and it’s simply up to you to see if it works for you. Most people who’ve tried acupuncture with Bell’s Palsy have experienced some degree of help with their treatment.
