One of the most important of all the mobile phone accessories out there to carry with you on a long trip would be a cellular antenna. Most people think it is the car charger, which I would be agree is very important also, but having a full battery with no reception whatsoever is pretty useless also. This is especially true when going on a long road trip, and super especially true if you are a GSM user, meaning you have your service through T-Mobile or AT&T, and I’ll explain why below.

Cellular service providers tend to invest in cell towers only in densely populated areas, which is why in most cases the cell phone reception in cities is almost perfect. However, since installing these towers is pretty expensive, the companies dont really bother installing them out in the wilderness, and that’s the problem. GSM signals dont travel very far away from their mother towers, so if you are with friends who a GSM phone from T-Mobile and CDMA phone from Verizon, I can guarantee you that the T-Mobile phone will die first. I have nothing against T-Mobile, I myself have been a customer for more 8 years now, but that’s just the reality.

Investing in cellular antenna would be pretty wise. Sure you can purchase those fancy blackberry accessories and HTC accessories for your phone and add bling to it to make it more cool, but believe you me, nothing is cooler than having a working phone when you are out in the middle of nowhere!
